Started off just powered in the gusty Southerly winds, but with some nice clean waves. Out the back I was well powered with the 5m, but in amongst the whitewater with the current I was struggling. Dunk and Neil were out with 7m and 9m kites.
Came back in for a bit and sat out a horrible rainstorm, the wind then eased a little and Chris and Mike went out kiting. As the wind then filled in again I got back out on the water. Just powered up again to start with and then it filled in properly. As it got to a proper 25 knots I saw Chris and Mike ditch their kites and all of a sudden I was off and flying and having a whale of a time. The swell picked up and there were some nice big faces out the back. The wind just kept increasing then, and I had about half an hour while it was just perfect and then it became a survival session. By the time I got off the water the wind was hovering around 26-30 knots with some 35 knot gusts.

Could have change down to the 4.5m but by then I had had enough.

Not a bad way to start off the year!!!
